Default Baby Names, how did you get there??

Interested in how people figured out their children's names...

My son will be named Cohen.
My DP has this.. Fetish.. For strange names. He originally wanted CONAN, but I told him to get a life as I don't want to think of Arnold in furry boots all the time when I say his name.
Then I realized that my in laws have one of those wooden retro paintings in their bedroom of...
    CONAN AND BARBARELLA!!

So I realized its deep rooted into his subconscious lol

    I then suggested COHEN.
Which has the similar sound to Conan but not as.. Well.. Icky.

    love it!

We found it really easy to pick our girls name - we both loved it and had it sorted by the time I was eight weeks pregnant. The boys name was so much harder. We went through baby name books, wrote lists and suggested names to each other. DH suggested Hamish randomly one night when I was about 20 weeks. My response was 'I don't hate it!'. It grew on me for about a week and then I loved it .

I suggested Fletcher when I was quite early, but loved Archie more. DH was set on Fletcher and hated Archie so an hour after DS was born
my mum was having a cuddle and DH asked mum.what she thought, she said Fletcher, DH looked pointedly at me, I said "fine, whatever, Fletcher it is NOW GIVE ME THAT LASAGNA IM STARVING I HAVEN'T EATEN FOR DAYS!!!"

DD we debated several names, I liked one that he didn't, he loved one which again my mum adored, i also liked tar one but was worried it was too common, she was born and I conceded that she really looked like the name he loved and now I love that we called her that!

My next boy if we have one will be called Oakley, which we both love but mum hates!

DS1's uncle is Kade, I wanted to used just Kade, but after reading up on names we came across Kaiden, I actually wanted it spelt Kaden but for some silly reason when I signed his birth certificate I signed it with the I and didn't realise until later.

Axel I came across because another hubber's son is named the same, At first I didn't really think about it, it wasn't until later when I was going through a baby book that I spotted Axel again and fell in love.

I love the name Cohen, I wanted to use it if this bub was a boy, but S said no lol.

    I love Cohen

We struggled with girls names as i really wanted my nana's name but DH didn't like it boys names were easier, we wrote a list of our top ten names and narrowed it down to our top two then kinda just picked Cooper his middle name on the other hand was sooo hard! we couldn't agree and i'd been tossing around using a Maori name as the middle name to bring some of my heritage into it, but wasn't sure how DH or his family would feel, but now that we have told them the middle name they love it and it will be his.
The girls name we kind of agreed on was Avida (ava and Ida Combined but pronounced a-vee-da) DH took some talking around though to like it, so glad bub's is a little man cause his name was so much easier

we both had a favourite boys name and couldn't agree on which one to use. Lucky we had twin boys, so we both got to name a son the name we picked.

Conan, haha, it is the kind of name my DP would come up with.

Grendel for a boy was his preferred name, yuck.

Eventually we compromised by looking at family names for something we could both love. Took a lot of to and fro-ing though, and being open to lots of suggestions.

    Love Cohen

I just said this in another thread, but I think "Can my baby be anything they want to be with this name" . As in, personally I can't imagine a Shakhyralina being an international diplomat, prime minister or social worker. Having said that though, I dont want the kid to be saddled with a boring name either so I look for strong interesting names that aren't type cast.

It's quite hard - I only have two names for my baby boy so far - lucky there's another 4 months to go!!!

After suggesting names for months and DH vetoing all but one (which was only a maybe) if all but given up, then the night before the birth, he finally decided that he would seriously look at names and suggested one that was very similar to my choice and was one I had suggested years before TTC, then when DS was born I let him choose which name as the middle name was from my side of the family

As for DD, it was alot easier, we recycled the names I had chosen if DS had been a girl and I got to choose because the middle name came from his side of the family

DS was simple - he is named after my little bro who passed from SIDS as a baby. I was ok with using his name as a middle name but the only other name i liked (Diesel) DS's dad didnt so a simple yet classic, Benjamin he is
