I personally wouldn't use it. But it's not a terrible name - I've certainly seen worse

Is this referring to me?? Since when is stating a fact a 'silly thing to say' ?

We are not TTC nor are we pregnant, however should we ever have another little girl, this is DHs pick, and I honestly do not mind it at all... Our two girls both have long names with 2 syllable nicknames. The nn. I would use for Alandrea is Andy. Thanks for your replies.

Yes it is referring to you. You didn't post "a fact". We would not all be nameless if people did not invent new names.

Sorry if I'm butting in but I think she was just generalizing. But it does make sense that we would all be nameless if people didnt invent names. If people didn't invent new names we would probably all have the same name.

Exactly... Surely names such as Rose, Pearl, Hazel or even Lilly weren't considered "normal" once upon a time. "Unusual" names won't be so unusual in a few years time.

Yeah but they're not "invented" names, they just names of already beautiful things that people picked for their children.
If a woman back then chose Pearilly - that would be an invented name

I get what opinionated is saying is all.

I'm pretty indifferent to the name. Don't love it, don't hate it.

I get that, and I myself favor traditional names, but at some stage a name is 'made up' and makes it's way into culture. I think it's shortsighted for someone not to consider making up a name if they cannot find another name they love. As with anything, what one finds repulsive another finds beauty in.

And if naming a child can only come from borrowing from beauty, I'm going to call my next son Mercury, I think it's beautiful!
