    Default CVS success

    Hi All,

Just in the early days of my second pregnancy but will be required to have a CVS after abnormal results on last pregnancy from amnio.

Im in Melb (Victoria) just wondering how successful you all where with this test? I know it has a 1 in 100 chance of miscarriage which is a bit scary but hubby and I have both agreed this test is important.

Can anyone recommend a good specialist to have this test done? Im in the northern suburbs.

    Thanks

Don't have any useful advice but just want to say I hope it goes really well for you. I had to have an amnio with my first bub and it's really scary making these decisions. I think the skill of the person doing the test is very important and reduces the risk so hopefully people have some good advice for you here xx

Hi there, I too had an abnormal amnio result last pregnancy, so opted for a cvs with this pregnancy. I didn't bother with the nuchal scan because even a low risk result is still risk, and after what I'd been through in the past I'd stress for the entire pregnancy. Best decision I made. I was a bit nervous about having the cvs, but honestly it was so much easier than I thought. Slight discomfort when the needle went in but that was it. I had bruising at the needle site for a couple of weeks, but it was fine. I had the cvs at 11 1/2 weeks, and results within 48 hours (FSH - extra cost) and luckily everything was fine. While there is still stress waiting for results, it was so much less this time not knowing what my risk actually was (last preg it was 1:48). There is a 1:100 risk of miscarriage, but part of this is background miscarriage risk (11 weeks naturally higher than 15 weeks) and I think it can be to do with the experience of the dr. Personally for me the decision wasn't hard, but everyone is different. I had the test in NSW.. Good luck, I hope it all goes well and you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy xx

Sorry I don't know about Melbourne. I had a CVS at 13 n half weeks in Sydney and after much research, the risk of miscarriage increases/decreases with the expertise if the doctor doing it. Look for a specialist in fetal medicine to do the test. I had a specialist do mine. In my opinion, it hurt a lot but I've read most woman only say its uncomfortable. I feel pain quite easily so for me it was quite bad. Good luck with it and maybe request the FIsh to get results sooner. They only told me 90% of the result after 24 hrs but I had to wait two weeks for the remaining 10% of results.

Hi , I had a CVS 2 weeks ago, I'm expecting twins, but we lost our 18 mth old a year ago to a genetic disease that I now know I carry, hence the CVS. Really wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be.
Do you know where your placenta is sitting?

Thanks all not sure of where my placenta is lying yet. Have my first OB appointment in 2weeks so will find out more then.

I guess its just about having a positive approach and researching the technician who will do the procedure.

I appreciate your stories and hope to be able to post back in a few weeks with positive news.
