We went to maccas a couple of months ago and I asked for my big mac without lettuce. We had to pay a $1 surcharge to have no lettuce on it. So we haven't been back since. It's annoying though because there are times when I just don't have the energy to cook and I'd love to be able to trust takeaway. The big mac was not very enjoyable without the lettuce either.

I have eaten Macers quite a few times during this pregnancy and love the McChicken BLT's! After reading the post from the former Macers manager no more Macers for me for the rest of this pregnancy!!!

Pre-packaged salads and deli meats are put through a slicing machine in which Listeria can live in the nooks and crannies which are hard to reach for cleaning, that is why they are unsafe to eat.

It might help each and everyone one of you to actually know the stats on lysteria in Australia before succumbing to "lysteria hysteria".

I agree seems a lot of people are misinformed about the true risks in Australia

What about packets of baby spinach? I eat this by the truck load! I do wash it though

The lettuce comes pre-packaged and is used as it comes. Unless the lettuce on the dress bench is used up it has a sitting time of 2 hours before needing to be thrown out, same with the tatsoi, onion, pickles and cheese (coon cheese lasts 3 hours)
Tomato and cucumber lasts an hour.

Don't mean to turn anyone off sorry! But I personally won't be eating any salad stuff from there or any other places.
Whats wrong with it sitting it for 2hrs?

If it is perfectly cleaned and lysteria free before being placed on the bench top then it safe from lysteria. The only concern would be other bateria/salmonia etc but assuming the product was safe to eat upon being taken out of the fridge 2hrs not refridgerated is not dangerous (there is a 4hr rule for the consumption of food (including meat and fish) at room temp).

I dunno, thats what I thought?

eta: if the tomatoes are sliced in store, I do agree that the slicer may be dirty and would prob avoid it
