Default placenta over cervix at 20wks...what now?

    Hi Everyone!

I had my 20wk anatomy scan yesterday and found out that my placenta is covering the cervix. The technician said that it can still move out of the way and they only start worrying if it's still covering it at 32 weeks. I'm curious to hear other women's experiences with this condition (both if it moved or if it didn't).

I'm having regular growth scans for the rest of this pregnancy due to IUGR and HELLP in my first pregnancy so I know they'll keep an eye on the placenta now too but is there anything else that the doc is likely to suggest when I next see her?

If I end up needing a c-section then so be it but geez it's going to be tough not being able to lift my 12 month old for 6 weeks!

My placenta was covering my cervix when i was 20 weeks. It caused a lot of big bleeds and 3 hospital stays but it ended up moving out of the way

Just pray it moves, there is a good chance it will. If it stays completely covering your cervix, you may end up on bed rest in hospitall for the last few weeks of your pregnancy like one of my best friends.

Oh, and it is more likely you are having a boy.

Mine had to move 1.5cm between 20 and 32 weeks, it didnt so I was scheduled for a csection at 39+4. My baby girl was born by emergency csection at 36+5 after I went into spontaneous labour. She was safe, that was the main thing, and 3wks later I am doing everything I was beforehand and caring for other kids.

Interesting...we found out at the scan that this is indeed a boy!

Hmm, bed rest, a 12 month old and a working DH are not a good combination! Will be hoping to avoid that.

I don't know how covered the cervix was and have an appointment on Friday to get more details from the doc. DS was born at 34 weeks due to PE/HELLP and I have a 30% chance of that happening again so that placenta had better start moving out of the way!
