We were visiting my parents for over Christmas in 2010. During that week we were also holding a joint first birthday for DD2 and my niece. DD2 got a vomiting bug, so she missed her 1st birthday. When me, DH and DD1 came down with it, my mum cancelled our extended family Christmas gathering. Unfortunately one of my sisters got it, but we avoided a LOT of other people being exposed to it. Christmas was pretty low-key that year!

Yes, but many people do not care no see the seriousness it may cause others. My child could of died as a result of Gastro(dehydrated and extremely high temps doctors were very concerned about her as it was an extreme reaction) and I was so mad as several selfish parents brought their children to her centre after they were showing signs of having it and were kept up through the night. I called to say my child had it and they then knew for a fact it was Gastro the other children had(parents claimed otherwise).

I think your friend is selfish but many parents are like her and many deny they would ever expose others children to it. Just last week we had a parent pretend like her child was ok and the doc cleared her child and turns out her child had Whopping cough...The child was exposed to it at a family gathering but the mum still refused to keep her child home as the doc cleared her child apparently(a friend whose child also attends the centre let it slip she knew the child might have it but delayed seeing a doc).

    That is truly bizarre, Areca!

I have a friend whose daughter falls unwell and she always tells me it's "food poisoning" but she knows full well she is contagious. It's weird! I just don't see why some can't just say "was really looking forward to catching up but we're sick so will see you next week".

We have stayed home all week. And cancelled visits to us due gastro! It has been awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I will always warn others if my kids are sick and think it is so rude when others don't.

It's horrible, I always let my family know other than that I become a hermit.
A few weeks ago in Coles 2 kids where running around for about 5 mins ds was next to me for most of the encounter but talking to the kids. The mum laughed off that they both have gastro and the older ones been off school for a week. Wtf
I understand you need to get groceries but do your kids need to be running around touching everything

I definitely warn people and expect to be warned. Especially for colds/bugs.
I'm so sorry that you all got sick plus you lost a friendship too.

after having our first family outbreak of gastro a few weeks ago i could not knowingly expose anyone to those kind of germs.
we hibernated in our home for 2wks and cancelled quite a few things to be sure it was all gone
