blood clotting disorder questions

hi girls, i also posted this in the TTC thread too, just wondering if anyone else been diagnosed with blood clotting disorder? (i have lupus anticoagulant). this is possibly what has caused my 3 m/c but i have only ever been given baby aspirin in early preg and lost all 3 around the 5-6 week mark.

anyone else gone on to have a healthy bubba and if so, were you put on blood thinners (to inject) asap?

i have my recurring m/c lady appointment at the hospital comin up on monday, and wanna request a script for the next time i get preggers so we can get onto this asap. hubby's getting his chromosomes tested and we're awaiting results (another 2-3 weeks) but i'm cleared for everything else other than my blood clotting disorder.

should i perhaps also request a laparoscopy from my fertility specialist when i see him in 2 weeks? or could this be a waste of time since they already know i can conceive, or could they find something that's hindering implantation from being effective.

so many questions i know, but this is where my head is at, at the moment, completely scattered and sick of getting a carrot dangled in front of me and being taken away. "here's your chance to have a baby!!!!!!!!!, nah just not". so upsetting to keep going through this.

i don't have lupus but i do have rheumatoid arthritis and they are in the same "family" of stupid annoying messed up illness

i also had recurring miscarriage.

I did 3 iui - all failed

then 2 ivf with just baby asprin, injectable heparin and the ivf cocktail - 2 miscarriage

then....my wonderful rhuem talked to my fert doc and got me to add steriods to my drug regime...hey presto...gorgeous bubba.

If you are getting pregnant but precious bubs not making it through, then i would look for some extra support. For me, the magic addition was the steroids, but i could not have done it at all without the heparin.

if that doesn't work on it's own...see if they can check if you are suitable for steroids or some extra progesterone support.

Sorry you find yourself in this situation. I know it is a terrible experience going through recurrent miscarriages. In the TTC section - Issues in TTC there is a thread about TCC/pregnancy with blood clotting disorders. It is not a very active forum so you might have to go back a couple of pages but you might be able to read up about others experience.

There are a number of different blood clotting disorders, different regimes of treatments (eg some just take aspirin, others take clexane, others take both) as well women take the medication for varying times ( some women take it for the first 12 weeks others take it up to just before delivery while others take them all through pregnancy all the the way to 6 weeks after you have the baby). So the short answer is I think it is best to have a chat to your doctor. I see a doctor who specialises in medical conditions like blood clotting in pregnancy - but i suppose you have to get over that hurdle of 6 weeks first so maybe the fertility specialist is the go but it is another thought.

I can answer some of your questions. I have lupus (which is a separate disease to your blood clotting - you can be lupus coagulant positive without having lupus) plus antiphospholipid syndrome (this is the blood clotting disorder which involves positive lupus coagulant antibodies as well as postive for antiphospholipid antibodies). I have known about these conditions for the last 16 years - way before we started to TTC. I have had 3 miscarriages (2 chemical pregnancies and one miscarriage at 9 weeks) in 6 months. In my instance the doctors didn't think it had any to do with the blood clotting or lupus as my blood levels were the best they had been in years. Although it was good they were so good but not much help when you are searching for answers! I know I thought I would never get a take home baby. Here is my story...

1st pregnancy - already on predisolone for lupus. I was suppose to start aspirin and clexane at 6 weeks but scan at 5.5 weeks showed no gestational sac so never started. My dr looking after the blood clotting said although she didn't think it had anything to do with it, next time start at 4 weeks when you get BFP.

2nd pregnancy - still on predinsolone and started aspirin and clexane at 4 weeks. Pregnancy ended at 9 weeks.

3rd pregnancy - Still on predinsolone and started aspirin and clexane at 4 weeks - another chemical pregnancy

4th pregnancy - Still on predinsolone but this time decided to start the aspirin before ovulation (suppose to improve the lining from what I read) and then started the cleaxane at 4 weeks. And so far (fingers crossed) I have a 13 weeks 5 day baby growing with no problems. I will continue on the aspirin and clexane until 6 weeks after the baby is born.

Sorry for rambling - but I suppose want I want to say it still does happen even after 3 miscarriages. Although I have a feeling the early taking of the aspirin - I will never know if that helped or not - it might be just this baby was meant to stay. That is the frustrating part of it - it is the not understanding why it keeps happening.
