Default Bub measuring earlier than my dates

Hey all, I just had my first scan and according to the ultrasound technician, bub measured at 5 weeks and 3 days when according to my dates (and we only did it on two days right next to each other!), I should be closer to 7 weeks. She could see a heartbeat and so could my husband and I but those dates are way off. Should I be worried?

Hugs the heartbeat is a good sign, how many days are they actually off? Remember what they are measuring are microscopic so a tiny variant leads to measuring between 5 or 6 weeks etc.
Also while you know you've only Dtd those dates. Conception can happen at a different date as sperm can live a few days inside and than plantation could of happened late
I'm sorry your worrying. Did they rebook you?

A heartbeat is reassuring and as PP said the sperm can survive up to 5 days before fertilising, then it can take 10 days give or take for implantation.

Thanks for your replies guys. I'm feeling a bit better today. I remembered that my SIL always measured two weeks behind her dates with my niece and she gave birth one day after "her" due date.

I too went for my dating scan expecting to be 7 weeks according to my LMP but measured at only 5 weeks 4 days with a strong heartbeat. Then at my 12 week appointment (12 weeks exactly according to my dates) I measured at 12 weeks 3 days. So i guess my ovulation cycle is just longer than i thought! I wouldn't be too worried. At this stage the baby is only measuring approx 1.5mm so would be extremely hard to get exact measurements

    This.

This is what threw me off too. I went expecting to be a certain number of weeks and was really confused and disappointed when they put me back by about 10 days...I was adamant they were wrong because I KNEW when baby was conceived....but the docs absolutely go by the scans date and they seem to know what they are talking about lol x

My dates were way off too, really don't worry, due dates are almost never right anyway so it really won't effect much except for the dates of the 12 week scan and than can be done from 12-14 weeks so book for a date that works for both dates

Isn't the heart beat the coolest thing you ever saw!

Just wanted to pipe in as this afternoon I went in for my "dating scan" at 6w2d (going by my LMP) and they said I was measuring 5w4d.

I know it's only 5 days off and I shouldn't stress.. She asked me what number pregnancy this was and I said 5th (3 very early miscarriages) and I have a dd conceived naturally and after that she kept on talking about how early and fragile this time was and to look out for the signs of a miscarriage like heavy bleeding and cramps etc. She said everything looked perfectly normal (heartrate flickering at 104bpm, the baby measured 2mm and still had yolk sac) but that it was still early and anything can happen. Way to make me feel better!! I feel so stressed at the moment. . It was great to see a heartbeat but still.. Can't help but worry.
