    Default Are you taking folic acid or folate? Must read

    Hi guys.

    Check you multi and make sure you are taking folate and not folic acid.

    This article is not only poorly written but quite misleading. Firstly, the author's definition of folic acid versus folate is flimsy at best. Secondly, it's an American article and relates to American methods of dosage which are not supported/practiced here.

    Further I note that when he is challenged regarding the MTHFR issue (which is treated with folic acid), he is curiously silent after muffling some excuse about "writing an article on that later" ....which he is yet to do.

    Straight from the medical dictionary:

    Folate is a B group vitamin naturally found in cereals, breads, legumes and vegetables. Folic acid is a type of B vitamin. It is the man-made (synthetic) form of folate that is found in supplements and added to fortified foods.

    You will find folate referred to as vitamin M on supplement bottles and folic acid as vitamin B9. Both are different forms of the same subtance.

    My opinion is that this article is without merit. I don't mean to cause offence but when you post an article and sing its praises, it does help to comment on why you think this rather than just recommending it.
