They can live for up to 7 days. But egg only lives 24hrs so I assume it takes less than 24hrs for the sperm to make it up the tubes to the pearly gates.. The ones that get there early just wait :

My doctor says good sperm take only 10 minutes , but it's better to have them waiting there when the egg is released.

I recently watched a great Doco called the great sperm race- I think it was on abc or sbs? Anyway, I think they take about 24 hours. The thing I found most remarkable was that of all the millions in an ejaculation, only a handful actually get as far as the Fallopian tube. The timing is critical- the ones that are too fast just slide off the end of the tube if the egg isn't quite ready. Fascinating stuff. It's a miracle babies are conceived naturally at all!

From the books I've read it takes 90 minutes to 2 hours for a sperm to go from ejaculation to the egg. Not sure it makes a difference how long it takes though as they can live for 5 - 7 days in fertile CM so if an egg pops out they'll be on it. Hence why we are told to be careful if we don't want to get pg. However, many people on here will say that they wonder why that advice is given as often it is not as easy as that.
