    Default Invisible children charity?

Just wondering if anyone has done any research before handing out money? I have seen some reports that they are being audited and that a lot of the funds are not making it to the cause (more to the cars they drive etc).

I am all for KONY2012, even if they are not all they say they are free sharing of this movie gets massive attention to the issue. How many people knew who Kony was before this week?

I heard brotanica encyclopedia backed them on their mission and brotanica doesnt just back anything. I knew about what was going on in Uganda I never knew who run it until today.

I am totally with you patsmum. It makes me sad and angry that people are giving money to these people thinking it is going to to some good Reports are that only about 30% of funds received actually go to anything useful, and in charity work, that is HORRENDOUS!

By all means, share the knowledge about what has been happening in Uganda but don't give them any money.

Not to mention the poor babies that live here that need our help too. But they are just pushed aside because a newer, flashier, media backed campaign has started

Plus, I am not sure if people are actually aware but the Ugandan military routinely uses rape as a weapon of war. Giving money to the Ugandan military makes me feel quite ill.

To be fair, the Invisible Children organisation is about raising the awareness of Kony, which is what they are doing. It is their mission to make him famous to ensure this remains on the public radar, so it makes sense to me that they will have higher administration costs because that is their fight - they need money to do that.

TBH I never expected my money to go directly to the children affected. I expect it to go to the publicity campaign. I've been bitten before with giving money to international children's charities where the majority of the funds I thought was going to the children was being eaten up by admin costs. I had no illusions this time.

As far as I am aware, and I do stand to be corrected, Invisible Children does not give money to the Ugandan Military. Their support of them is raising awareness to keep the US advisors there to assist in Kony's arrest.

Everything I have read so far has said they give support to the military. Despite latest intelligence reports of LRA being almost disbanded and Kony not being in Uganda.

For me personally, having worked in charities before, there is a lot of stuff that goes on behind closed doors and I feel it is better to give to the larger charities with a proven track record. But that is merely my opinion.
