Whats next after Clomid Fails?? Any PCOS ladies out there with acne or T-Bar ladies??

Hi,

I got diagnosed with PCOS last september( dr's have been telling me to get tested for ages now and i kept putting it off- wish i didnt)
anyhoo. my skin has never been perfect but last may it went really bad i got acne over my back and face. it seems like there is nothing dr's can do about it except antibiotics and creams which dont work for me and as i am trying to get pregnant they cant give me anything else. does anyone else have bad acne from PCOS and what have u done to fix it.

so thats the acne thing.. now the baby. dh and i have been trying to conceive since last april. i have only had 1 period when i was 17 and then after a year of not having one my docs put me on the pill. so i have never had a proper period since apart from a bit of spotting about 5 months after i stopped pill.. i did my first round of clomid last month and no ovulation. i just finished my second lot and waiting and praying that i ovulate next week.. im seeing specialist in 3 weeks to discuss what is next for me if clomid fails.. is anyone else in a similar situation and can tell me what docs with try next??-

also anyone seeing DR Kelsey and got any good reviews on him.

Acne is the pits. I hate it. I don't have bad acne just the odd spot every now and then. But I knew a girl should I say lady lol Who had bad acne and she went to a dermatologist??? Proper skin specialist anyway and he said to her forget all the expensive stuff just use a product called "cetaphil".

You buy it from the chemist and it's cheap. For 500ml it's like $19-$20 and will last you a few months. She had been using it for a while.

Next Question What's next?

There are a few options to consider and what your FS will advise may differ to another FS.

There is OI (Ovulation Induction) with injectables like puregon or gonal F and timed intercourse.

There is IUI. Where they stimulate your ovaries with injectables get your DH sperm and insert them through your cervix.

Then IVF. Doing the whole injections and then egg pick ups and embryo transfers etc...

It really depends on what type of treatment you are ready for. Some just aren't ready to step straight onto the IVF rollercoaster so OI & IUI are good to start with. They all involve monitoring as in BTs (Blood Tests) and scans mostly internal scans (or my favorite term dildo cam). IVF is more invasive with your EPU's and ET's.

Have you had your tubes checked? That maybe a step as well. I didn't have a problem on clomid but had a lap to check my tubes.

We skipped OI & IUI and stepped on the IVF rollercoaster.

Hi Sammy! I've been wondering the exact same thing, so thanks for this thread, thumbs up!

I've got PCOS (skin is ok-ish) but no periods at all for me. First round of clomid failed, now onto round hope and praying I'll O this time round. My FS said we would try 3 rounds of clomid then he said we'd do a laproscopy. I am wondering about OI and IUI. I wouldn't be up for IVF just yet. I still have hesitations about getting a lap done, I don't know howu much it will really help apart from telling me if my tubes are open. If anyone has any advice or info about laps that would be great!

This procedure allows us to determine whether there are any defects such as scar tissue,endometriosis, fibroid tumors and other abnormalities of the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.

Yes more diagnostic than anything else. If there are problems that can be fixed then they'll more likely fix them then and there. But if they find a problem they are better equipped to prescribe treatments according to the findings.

"If any defects are found then they can sometimes be corrected with operative laparoscopy which involves placing instruments through ports in the scope and through additional, narrow (5 mm) ports which are usually inserted at the top of the pubic hair line in the lower abdomen."

But in saying that they say you are more fertile after having a lap. I can vouch for that remark because I did fall pregnant after my lap. But unfortunately it didn't stick.

i have tried cetephil with no luck but im really hoping it gets better if i was to get pregnant.. having bad skin and being infertile definatley sucks. At this stage i think we would try the injectables and IUI first as money is a bit of an issue and i dont have private health. i guess its just now down to the waiting game to see if i ovulate next week. fingers crossed.

do u no how expensive the injections and IUI and IVF and all that are?? i suppose going in to get scans all the time is the biggest thing. sucks we live an hour and half away from our specialist.

Littledove i really hope that u ovulate and get pregnant.. it can really get u down sometimes hey.. all my family is really supportive but i dont no anyone who is in the same situation as me and i no they're being nice but sometimes all the "it'll happen one day" comments drive me insane!!

Sammy - Pricing for treatments will vary from clinic to clinic. I know that when we do our next stim cycle in April we have to pay $7000 up front. This includes my appointments and scans, synarel (first bottle only any more I have to pay) and my puregon injections.

All my supporting meds like metformin, progynova, provera, progesterone pessaries, crinone, clexane & pregnyl I have to pay for up until 12 week pregnant. I do get enough of some supporting meds to last the TWW until BT.

I can however claim any extra bottles of synarel on my private health. I will get money back from medicare out of the $7000 I pay up front. I can't tell you what I'll get back as I haven't done a stim cycle yet this year.

I can also claim all my out of pocket exspenses (meds and parking etc...) on tax. I *think* it's about 20c in the dollar back but don't quote me on that.

I did an FET in December and it cost bout $2500 and we got about 1400 back from medicare.

My PHF will cover my hospital expenses and Anesthesiologist for EPU & ET.

I can't tell you about OI or IUI as I said before we didn't bother with it.
