So, just out of curiosity, you never thought to watch that someone paid for what they were eating?

And to be specific, I had to look at the people so I could squish my trolley past and not hit theirs.

How would she know if they had already eaten it? It's not like there are employees combing the aisles looking for people scoffing food with the intention of not paying for it.

For the record, I never said it was stealing.

The "rude" bit was in regards to people taking something that, at the time, does not belong to them.

I think it's a trust and honesty thing - like at a restaurant you don't always pay for the food before you eat it - but it is highly unlikely that someone will eat and then do a runner.

But in a restaurant it's expected that you eat first, pay after. In a shopping centre it's generally expected hat you pay first, eat later.

    not really...
everysingle time i've given the kids food to eat at coles, i've had shop assistants smile at me, or make comments that imply they enjoy seeing the kids happy, rather than screaming for food.
and every one of my checkout people asks me whether i want them to bin the empty packets or not - and usually makes some crack about how happy and gorgeous the kids are. [because miss 2 always seems to stop screaming before we hit the checkout i swear she knows they're going to gush over her, and tries to look her best for them...its kinda weird actually-unless she's had food in her mouth the whole time...then we usually don't have screaming at all]

they seem to expect that parents will provide the kids something that will stop them screaming.

I am not aware of my surroundings.
I am too busy trying to stop my kids from destroying the place. I learnt to switch off years ago...if you meet the eyes of the smug mums, they judge you.
