Default Pap smear in medical centres (women's friendly) in Sydney?

    Hi there,

My papsmear is due in Sept this year and the last time I had it done was in 2010 by my Ob/Gyn after DS was born. Now I am due for another one and I don't think i'll be going back to the ob/gyn as 1) he's a private practice and I've stopped my private health insurance (don't want to be $100 out of pocket!) and 2) have no reasons to go back to him at the moment (i don't have any pregnancy/gynea matters with him at the moment).

I know that I can go to any GP, but I won't do it at my current GP (as I'm not comfortable with him doing pap smears on me lolll).... Is there any women's clinic around Sydney preferable near City CBD or North Sydney, that is specialising in women's matters and able to do pap smears anytime?

    Default Sexual Health Service

    Hi,

You might like to try the sexual health clinic in Herbert St at Royal North Shore Hospital. I had a lovely female doctor there and you only need a medicare card or if you prefer to remain anonymous, you don't even need a medicare card. Ask for a female and they will be happy to oblige.

I can't recommend Dr Penelope Burns at Rozelle Total Health enough. She gave me my first pap smear and I felt incredibly comfortable with her. She explains everything and tells you before she does anything.

She is a GP but with a special interest in women's health.

Family planning NSW clinics are staffed by Doctors, Nurses and Sexual Health practioners and they do Pap Smears, no cost, though you can donate as little or as much as you're willing with no obligation to do so.

Their number is: 1300 658 886. They have clinics all over Sydney including inner suburbs.

Thanks ladies! Didn't know there could be a few options! I'm now relieved at least I know where to go when I'm due for my next papsmear.

    Hi all,
it's me again bringing up my old thread. I'm a bit overdue with my papsmear as I have had way too many excuses.

I'd like to ask about ROzelle Total Health Centre as I live in that suburb too and i know where that clinic is. I'm thinking of going there and seeing one of the female doctors. What's the experience like over there?

Or does anyone know any female doctors in Sydney CBD as I'm planning to make an appointment around lunch time or after work.
