I know its alot on money to get it installed but there are payment plans and in the long run its gona save you HEAPS. Even if you just switch to solar hot water, i think you can get a system installed for about $1000.
I love our solar! we have made $2k profit in 6 months! Before then our bills were about $250 a quarter, including the granny flat

I just got a $1600 elec bill  last three bills were estimates so this one is to make up for all the under estimates I've had. I have been paying $100 a fortnight so have already paid $500 off it before it came but have no idea how I'm going go pay $1100 by the end of the month.

I'm pretty sure they are obligated to give you a hefty extension for payments if they haven't read the meter in 9 months. If they refuse take it to the ombudsman.

Our quarterly bill is around $250 - that's in Bris for 2 adults and a baby. We don't have any air con, but run fans most of the time in summer. To give you an idea what that's for we run the dishwasher every 3rd day, washing machine every 2nd day, have a very small hot water service and we keep light usage to a minimum. We have a ridiculously big TV, but it's pretty energy efficient. We have gas cooktop, but only buy a bottle once every 2 years, and use the electric oven on average 2 or 3 times a week.

3 years ago our bill was around $150 a quarter, and our usage has barely gone up - so that's how much costs have gone up over that time

We direct debit $360 p/m which I think is huge. We have 4 children, pool, solar hot water (but booster on most of time), energy efficient lighting. I hardly use the ac (maybe 5 times all summer) so I'm not sure what's costing so much. Need to look into it.....
