    Unhappy Can't keep new cat

A short while ago, we took in a cat. She looked lost, but very loved. Her fur is beautiful and soft, she has a pretty diamante collar with a chain dangling from it with a diamante letter. She is very friendly. Her photo and general area was posted on fb groups and at vet clinics. She is desexed but not microchipped. When I found out last week that the owners moved to a 'no pet' home, they simply left her behind. They were contacted by former neighbours to find out what their plans were and basically said that it's hard enough finding a rental with a low income and lots of kids without throwing in pets as well.

I have just found out she is 4 (vet guessed 2 to 4) but I have also discovered now that she is coming into the bedrooms and on the furniture I am allergic to her!

I know the rules when selling a cat over 8 weeks it has to be microchipped, but what about rehoming a stray? Will I have to microchip her first? And will my details have to be on it then the new owners change it?

She is a persian/burmese cross, very pretty and fixed up, so it shouldn't take too long to find her a new home. But what can we do for now? She's just getting comfortable here and now I have to keep her out of bedrooms.

Any suggestions on how to deal with allergies for this time, and advice on microchipping?

    Big

I don't know what to suggest...I feel so bad for you!

I'd offer to take her but we are moving across the country soon and flying one cat to tassie is pricey enough .

I wonder if keeping her coat really short would help?

You could try bathing her. Sounds crazy but I used to bath my cat to decrease allergies friends had. I was told (don't know if it's true) that the allergy is to the saliva that they leave on their fur when licking themselves. So bathing helps to keep it less allergy ridden. Also daily brushing outside (helps get rid of fur).
Good luck. I don't know about answers for rehoming. Perhaps call a local shelter???

She had a bath, dd somehow got green paint and glue through her fur but my eyes are itchy as anything

I thought about clipping her and keeping it short, but then thought that seemed crazy, maybe it's not so crazy.

We keep our Himalayan Persian clipped short in summer. If we don't she is just miserable and there is cat fur everywhere!

Maybe ask a vet if that would reduce your allergic reaction.

I've taken Polaramine, but don't want to live off those either. Have a wet washer to my face and have become very puffy now. She was booked in this coming week for microchipping, not sure whether to do that or not now.

Doesn't sound good for you! Oh dear. Perhaps you need to find another loving home for her. If you went to your local shelter and explained your situation they may be able to help you. You can't live off allergy medication with puffy eyes!!! Awful.

Go ahead with microchipping her. Its only about $60 (well, it is here in Perth, dont know where you are). If worse comes to worse and you need to rehome her, you can ask for them to pay the price of microchipping that you just had done. At least that way, she is microchipped and safe. If you need to rehome her, you just fill out a form on the back on the microchipping form that relates to change of ownership and address. Pretty sure that costs about $20, but dont quote me on that.

Hope clipping her will help, but remember clipping isnt cheap, especially is she needs to be sedated. Hope things work out ok, for you and the kitty

Yeah not at all. Just need better ways to control it and also microchip advice. She is the right temperament, ok with my other cat, the dog, great with the child. The other family said they had lots of kids, but I don't know how many, and no other pets but she has not had any issues with my 2.
