Default John Hunter, John Hunter birth centre or Newcastle private

Has anyone given birth at any of these recently (within a year)?
What was good or bad? costs? How did you chose?

I am having trouble finding info on JH, saw some bad reviews but they were very old, is it only mid wives at the birth centre? Can you have the same midwife throughout pregnacy and birth?

How do you go about finding a midwife or Midwife group? I can find listings for ob's and I guess you just call them with a GP referal, but if I decide I dont want an ob then what do I do? Who do I call, where do I go?

If you go to Newcastle private do they have midwives for the labour and your ob just comes to deliver? How does it all work?
    So confused?

    Thanks in advance for help!!!

I can't help too much on the JHH side of things as I went Newcastle private. The midwives do most of the work and my OB come in at the very end to deliver. I had Dr Brown who was absolutely awesome and I couldn't have asked for better care. I must say te midwives at the private were a little contradicting but I think you will find that anywhere. Btw had DD in December. Hope that helps.

Look into Belmont birth centre if you haven't already and are interested in midwife group care. They also deliver at the JHH birth centre but you're more likely to end up with a string of interventions as opposed to Belmont. Food for thought!

Oh also, they're public (free!) and you have a main midwife but can be seen by anyone on the "team"(I think about 6 middies). I only ever saw two through my whole pregnancy.

She beat me to it! As a student midwife (yay!!!! First time I've ever written that! 😜) I couldn't recommend them highly enough.

    Default Belmont Birthing

I'm also a Belmont Birthing fan.
I had my first bubba at JHH using a Belmont midwife in 2011, and then they changed the rules so I had my second bubba at Belmont in 2013, where the rooms are ginormous! Here is some info: http://www.friendsofbelmontbirthing.org.au
