How often do you go to the child health clinic?

My DS is 11 weeks and often when the drop in service is open I have something else to attend. Is there a guideline on how often a baby should have a check up? Part of me feels it's not necessary to go fortnightly like I have been if I can see he is thriving and happy!? He hasn't been for 3 weeks. I'd like to know everyone else's thoughts.

We never went to the child health nurse with the twins, we had the 6 week check up then they would get looked over at immunization time, if something was wrong in between we would take them to a doctor

I went as they were scheduled with DS until 12 months. Then I stopped going. I won't be going at all with Newbie - he/she can be seen to by my private middie after birth then the GP when needed and for immunisations.

You can go whenever you want. They'll have a schedule that they want to stick to but it's entirely up to you.

Because I was a young mother, the hospital offered me a certain amount of home visits, but half of them I slept through and never had (I'm sure I annoyed the poor nurse - but seriously, why books appointments for early mornings when someone has a newborn?).

I got her weighed at the chemist if I wanted to keep track of that, and if I had any questions or concerns, I went to the doctor. I didn't need to see a child health nurse - read any threads on here and they pretty much just make mothers feel like rubbish, so I'm glad I avoided them.

They provide appalling misinformation most of the time.

If I have a medical issue concerning my DS, I got to a GP. For breastfeeding issues I ring the ABA hotline or see a LC. I'm not bothered by his weight at all so I don't ever get him weighed. When he's bigger I will weigh him at the local chemist every so often for the purpose of knowing when to turn his car seat.

I go every 3-4 weeks to get her weight/length checked. I also get her developmental checks done there (as well as the paed) and immunisations. Depends on the nurse as to whether they are helpful or not. I've had some problems with feeding lately and some of them are completely useless - they didn't any suggestions of what it could be or what I could do to improve the issue.

Or lack of usefulness I should say. The health nurse didn't pick up my DS hydrocel but when I went to my GP, she did. When I think back, there are some really silly things she said re. Breast feeding. I also felt like they stick to a script and don't really give advice. Think I might just stick with my GP.
