Default What do you do when you don't get paid?

My boss forgot to put the pays through from last week. It will be paid with the next pay cycle. I'm ok because it's the ftb week but if it was the PpS week I would have reported for the fn so not received Centrelink OR wages.

How do you get through when that happens? I'm not sure what other people at my work will do, but the rest at least have partners on high incomes or still live at home.

Dip into our savings, which have dwindled a bit during renovations.

It has happened to me twice before - the first time I dipped into savings. The second time I didn't have savings but the boss gave me my pay in cash instead, after hearing of my circumstances.

It has never happened to me and if it did there would be outrage. Then again I have always worked for large companies so there would be literally hundreds of angry employees..

If it did happen to me I would have to make a million phone calls to banks, insurance companies etc explaining that my direct debits wouldn't be working. No idea whether that would count as a mortgage default... Ergh I'm having horrors just thinking about it...

Hope you get your $$ soon

It's a nation-wide company but only that one workplace where it was forgotten. Nothing can be done, it has to wait. I just gave a workmate 3 litres of milk and a bread mix from our emergency stash, but we are still in cyclone season, and I am a single parent, so can't leave us short, particularly with our milk being nut milk and bread mix being gfcf, it's not cheap.

I had that happen recently because no-one believed I was coming back from maternity leave when I said I was coming back. As a result HR didn't have the paperwork to resume my pay. Used my credit card for three weeks until my first pay came through. Not happy.

Had this happen many times- my company has been constantly making the headlines over the last few years because of their stuffed- up pay system!

I sit on the phone to payroll and put on my crankiest voice until they sort it out...and if they don't, I'm back on the phone....

On the bright side, I get to write a lot of phone calls off as tax deductible

Payroll have a policy where they won't fix pays mid-week. Time sheets are sent through friday, my pay goes in between 5pm and 8pm on tuesday, so of course it was wednesday before I could talk to the boss about it.

It really annoyed me when she was giving suggestions like use a credit card (don't have one), use savings (don't have any) and my favourite was it's only one week, it's no big deal. Um, yeah, I don't have another person in the house who brings in over 120k/year, I only have pt childcare wages with no back up. Another worker was stuck, it was her parenting payment week and she only had $80 go in because her income reduced her payment to that amount. Some people might work only to have play money, but most don't.

Why are they waiting until the next pay cycle? Can't they just put it through the next day or whatever? That's terrible.

I normally have some money left, plus a clear credit card, so I would be okay, but I always get paid on time. My last two employers were small businesses but always on time with wages, and would have fixed immediately if any problem.

In my place of work you can claim financial hardship and they will do a manual payment. That's just wrong
