Whether she is or not I don't think she deserves death threats

I see the point of her paper. She herself even said she isnt encouraging it or trying to get a law passed....its just a discussion about a sensitive topic. I agree she doesnt deserve death threats.

I find it strange she's getting threats from Pro-Life groups. It seems she's saying if abortion is legal and right, then so should killing a newborn be... which pretty much nobody would agree is okay (killing a newborn). It sounds like she's actually saying something which is pretty much pro-life really.

There have long been moral and ethical arguments about the extent to which abortion is different to infanticide. Some (usually from a pro-life perspective) say there is little difference.

I recall discussing it at uni at some length - the argument that a foetus is not considered to have the same rights as a woman because it is wholly dependent on the mother to exist, and since that can also be said of a full-term live infant, whether there is any difference... things like that.

It's an academic paper, not a policy statement.

The human rights debate is a very interesting one. I remember when DD was born in our little pack of stuff there was a pamphlet about her human rights. DH was incensed at the thought she had no rights the minute before she was born but full rights the minute after she was born.

What is her point? It's going to the medical journal of ethics as an arguement for what? Killing babies? Making abortion illegal? Who's point of view is it exactly? Who's theory?

Its a sad day when humanity actually have an arguement over killing newborns. Where the hell does that view come from.
I know the next article "is it ok to kill a toddler" cause you know they can't fend for themselves.

    The world worries me.

I haven't read it but I'd wager she isn't arguing for anything in particular, rather she is trying to provoke thought and ethical discussion surrounding abortion and infanticide.

What is the difference between a 38 week foetus and a newborn? Is it simply being in the womb that removes rights from otherwise viable babies?

Incredibly emotionally challenging things to consider, but I suspect highly relevant to medical ethicists? Or any ethicist really I guess.

It's a theoretical paper for a university. Nothing else. Why on earth this is in a newspaper I wouldn't know. It's as relevant as publishing someone's PhD in the news. It's a discussion topic. Jeez. Death threats. How pathetic.

I feel sorry for her, Lawyers have to come up with studies and papers about defending killers/sick twisted peole, doesnt mean they beleive its ok to do certain things.
Its life, healthy discussion about the fine points and facts in life.
Sucks that the media have jumped on to make her look like a newborn hater.
