    Default 50th birthday presents

    Hi all
Sorry this is not baby related and most likely not posted in the right section.
However my mum is 50 in may and I'm trying to think of something special to get her but I have no idea. She isn't having a party but we (my mum, step dad, Dh, dd and i) are going to Bali for 5 nights. We will be in Bali for her actual birthday.

Any ideas for a present? What did you get your mum for her 50th?

my mum turned 50 in january. my sister organised a family dinner for her. i couldn't be there, i wasn't given enough notice and i have a night job. but my mum is the type who appreciates a card and a hug, yanno? she just wants to know that she's thought of.
maybe you don't have to go really out of your way? you're already going to be in bali, right? take her out for a nice breakfast and give her a card and a book or something. that's what i'd do if she's anything like my mum.

I don't remember what I gave my mum for her 50th but for her 60th last year I got her a birthstone ring and earrings, charms for her pandora and I did a really big, nice photobook of her life from birth to 60. I got lots of photos from family as well as what we already had, scanned them all and put stories, memories, quotes and verses in as well. It was a real "this is your life" type book. It turned out awesome and she cried and cried. We had a big party for her and she got lots of lovely things but this was her favourite. She still looks at it all the time and keeps it on display in her house.

So I'd totally recommend that! Easy to take with you on holiday too!

Mum's a jewelry lover so my bro, grandmother & I put in to get her a ring from Tiffany (not their signature range, one of the designer range). It was silver with a little diamond. She cried.

For MILs 60th we bought her 2 flights to Tassie on Tiger & accommodation at a hotel in Hobart. She cried as well.

It was cheaper than the ring :-/

Other ideas I've seen are experiences rather than gifts (restaurant vouchers, winery tours etc) or something like getting an old photo restored and mounted/framed. What sort of stuff does your mum like?

My siblings and I all chipped in and got her a stunning pair of diamond earings, a big big bunch of flowers delivered and too her out for the night.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Some good ideas. My mum isn't a huge jewellery wearer. She does loves books so the photo book of photos from the last 50 years I think she would love.
