Default quick answer- iron on patches

i have a few iron-on patches i bought recently, and there's one that i'd like to put onto this hat i have. the hat is made of polyester. can i do this? or will i destroy the hat? anyone have any experience with this? if i'm going to do it i'd like to do it as soon as possible. like, this afternoon.

I wouldn't. Polyester can "melt" with too much heat and you'd need an iron pretty hot to get the adhesive to stick. Maybe you could stitch it on instead?

Should be fine as long as you don't touch the poly with the iron. I would also lay baking paper over the patch so the iron doesn't burn the surface.
