Ohhh OP... I was a hoon back in the day and have had plenty of fines.

I was down to my last point on my licence at one point! If I got pulled over the standard cop question was "Any reason for speeding?" - I think the best answer is "No" - because unless you have some sort of extraordinary you're about to die type reason, you're just going to get lectured if you try to make an excuse!

No speeding fines for about 3 years now

Some are, known as safely cameras. If you speed up to miss the red light, you'll be done for speeding as well as a red light if you don't make it in it.

BIL was done last month & lost his license for 3 months.

I've had a couple, but not for a few years (touch wood). I got them all in the first couple of years that I had moved to the country from the city, which I put down to not really taking enough notice of speed limit changes and not knowing the roads- they were all around speed limit changes (i.e. 110km to 80km, 60km to 50km).

I have also been let off 3 times for speeding when I've been pulled over. I didn't use an excuse they seem to routinely ask where you're going and for me it was always work, and they then asked me where I worked so I told them- it seems that they let you off if you work at a hospital (which I really do, wasn't making it up just to get out of it). DP has found the same, he's been let off for being a fireman at least twice that I know of.

Yep, sure have. I'm a self confessed hooner. I blame it on my pure hatred of driving - I just want to get there faster so I'm not driving anymore! I do realise this logic is ridiculous. I have a very interesting photo from a red light camera where I'm literally on 2 wheels going around the corner. The 'wasn't me' speech to hubby apparently wasn't too convincing

Yep. Before I had kids I got a speeding fine. I was doing 72 in a 50 zone. $242 fine.
    I drive cautiously these days
