    Default Clingy Pre-Schooler

Im recently new to all this asking for help thing but i recently have put my child back into day care (finally got things settled). In the morning his really excited to go to pre-school but then as soon as we get there he carries on but its only when there outside playing. Ive tryed interacting with him and walking around with him to all the different things the kids are playing but he still won't interact with the kids.. The teachers have told me when i leave he is usually fine but i just started working agian and i'm usually stuck at the day care for about half hour.. i've tryed to drop him off later when there inside but that makes me late for work.. Does anyone have an ideas that can help me get him interacting with the kids alittle more...

Not exactly an idea interacting with the other kids, but my DD was the same at kindy. She got better as she made a friend - and as long as that friend was there and I set them up playing together she was happy for me to go - unfortunately this particular friend was away a lot, but she was also then happy if I basically passed her over to the teacher... Could that be an option for your son? That he feels comfortable with a particular carer and to physically drop him with her and her attention before you go?

My dd is nearly 5 and in her second year of kindy and still as yet I have never been able to do the drop and run - she just needs adjustment time. I know that isn't helpful when you have to be somewhere. Can you get to daycare earlier to compensate for it?

Yeah my DS is very very shy when it comes to other kids, It really does take him a while to interact with any other children, His has some bad incidents with alot of other kids he was always bitten and hit from other kids which is why ive had to change day care's a few times.. I intend to feel bad when i do have to resort to handing him to the teacher and his crying i'm also a big softy when it comes to handing him to someone. I'm not the best earlier riser and neither is my DS and the he likes to take his time getting ready for the day.. He is very easily distracted by other things.
Might just have to become that earlier riser

My DS is exactly the same. Gets excited about going but on the trip there says he wants to go home and then clings to my leg at drop off lol Teachers say he is a little sad for a short while then is fine.

I have been adopting the short, loving but firm approach. I take him to equipment, give him a kiss and cuddle and tell him I'll be back in the afternoon to pick him up then leave. If he shows signs of clinginess I pick him up, and again tell him I love him and will be back later then give him to a teacher. This is only his 3rd week going twice a week, but he's getting there. It kills me knowing he's sad for a little while but he's in school next year and needs to get used to me dropping him off.

yeah thats my problem to i am really afraid of him doing it next year when he starts prep, The teachers won't be as flexible to do the same as day care teachers.... I'm hoping he does grow out of it by the end of the year...
