How many times did you wash before using them, some diapers take up to 10 washes to be max absorbency. When I get new diapers I wash them a bunch without soap then use them

They've been washed heaps of times. Any suggestions? I really don't want to switch brands but from what I've read maybe I need to
how often are you changing them? cloth nappies need to be changed more often than disposables. new nappies can need to be changed more regularly until they reach full absorbance.

are you using liners? if the moisture is not going through the liner to the nappy, it could be just leaking out the sides.

is the nappy soaked, or is the wee escaping rather than being absorbed?

what type of itti bittis are they? (d'lish, tutto...)

They definitely should not need a strip wash. When I spoke to the woman at Itti Bitti, she actually said people tend to really overdo the strip washes and it is bad for the nappy. There is no way there would be a significant build up in such a short timespan, especially with the amount of detergent you are using.

I use BBH magic Alls and Bonnibuns. No issues with either in terms of leakage. In fact, they have never leaked, even with newborn poo.

Thank you all SO much for your replies!

Over the past couple of days I've been keeping track of how often I change, as well as being more careful about getting the nappies right into that undie crease. I've had one leak, and in all fairness I left that nappy on for too long. I'm getting into the habit of checking them hourly or two-hourly and trying to change them as soon as they're wet, whereas with a disposable I wouldn't have changed at the first sign of wetness. (I don't think there's much that would have stopped the car poonami we had the other day, but as we're getting onto solids those shouldn't be quite as liquidy for long anyway!)

I think we're going to be ok! And thank goodness, because I just adore them.

Hahaha, not being familiar with what Itty Bittys are, I opened this thread expecting it to be a post about leaking boobs during pregnancy!! Small boobs in particular! Read the OP and started to get really confused...

I'm guessing that "I am so sad. I love them so much, I want them to work so badly. But I've had a couple of days of just cleaning up leaked wee and poo and I'm about to admit defeat" would have conjured up all kinds of images...
