    Default Support group in Perth?

Hi calling all / any Perth IFVers...
I've recently had to terminate a badly wanted pregnancy at 17 weeks due to my baby having a giant omphalocele (basically a massive hernia) and other major issues which meant our baby would likely never have been able to draw it's first breath. It has been the most awful time of my life, which I am still getting through. We conceived with IVF due to me having very low AMH levels (2.5) which means I don't have many eggs for my age (I'm 33). I have been searching on line for a support group in perth but have been unable to find anything. I am seeing a counsellor but haven't asked her if she knows of any yet... We have to wait 3 natural cycles until we are able to try ivf again. It has been almost 4 weeks since the termination, hoping to get my period soon so I can start marking off the calendar! Anyway if anyone knows of any support groups in Perth for IVFers or is willing to start one with me please let me know.... Thanks Nikki

    Default You're not alone ...

    Hi Nikki
Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply yesterday and this will need to be a quick entry as I'm on my way to a meeting. I just wanted to say I'm so very sorry for your loss and that I understand what you're going through. I lost a much wanted little girl in January at 15 weeks with Trisomy 18. I too had to make the awful decision to end the pregnancy and was induced at King Edward mid January. I am 40 and have low AMH (it was 1.5 18 months ago so not sure what it is now) so am unsure if I will even be able to get pregnant again - my fertility specialist said my chances were very very slim last time. I know the anxiety of even considering another pregnancy in the midst of our grief for our bubs. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk. Sorry about the quick note again - but didn't want you to think there was no one out there who knew what you were going through. I too am in Perth.
    Hugs

    Hi wishmeluck

Thanks for your reply. I am so sorry for your loss, it's a total ***** and just so unfair! This has just got to be the hardest thing to come to terms with. For you to be doing this on your own and then getting such a kick in the guts is beyond words. So heartbreaking. I am accessing free counselling through Centrecare which was recommended to me from KEMH, so I'm sure they gave you the info also. I have found it helpful and it's free! Gotta take what you can get when doing IVF! I have no friends who know what this or going through IVF is like. They either have kids, conceived naturally or aren't trying yet. If you're keen to meet up for a coffee sometime let me know, I would enjoy the opportunity to chat with someone who knows what all this is like. I sit in the clinic surrounded by women who are going through the same thing but there is no opportunity to connect with these women. And I find it astounding that I am unable to find any support group info for Perth IVFers. This seems like a massive hole in the system considering the number of people going through IVF

Anyway, don't mean to be too needy. If your not comfortable meeting up then that's totally fine. I'm happy to chat on line.

    (I live in St James)

    Nikki

Monnika we did IVF through Pivet in Leederville and there were signs up in reception advertising a casual support group for IVFer's. It might be worth asking at whichever clinic you're going to if they have something set up?

Otherwise the Calling all Perth thread in the IVF section is good for talking to people locally going through the same thing.

Thanks Arlais. I appreciate your advice. I'm going through Pivet too. I'll try what you suggest.

We were there not long ago in July last year, so I'm sure they would still have it running

I didn't go to it, we were lucky to get pregnant on the first try, but I'm sure it would come in handy to have a supportive group if we needed multiple cycles.

I found it really helpful to join an IVF support thread when we were cycling, and then once you're pregnant the due in groups specifically for IVFer's are wonderful! I really like my general DIG, but having a space specifically where people have gone through a similar experience to achieve pregnancy certainly saves a lot of explanation.

    Good Luck!
