you need occasional care centre for times like that otherwise you'd just need to book into a normal day care centre but still pay for the whole day ( don't obviously have to send for whole day)

Actually, a lot of long day care centers offer 1/2 days. Just ring up and find out. All the centers I have worked at have offered 7.30-1 sessions and 1-6 session!!

Have you tried family day care? They tend to charge per hour, although it depends on the educator as to what minimum hours are etc

How old is your child? My daughter goes to an early learning centre / ldc and they have half days. They take 2.5yrs - 5yrs. Maybe try that over a regular ldc.
