I got it from woolworths and they also have the black icing in a tube for writing and small detail on the cake.

Be careful with the liquid one from supie as it might go grey not black but you can get a black one from cake decorating shop in black powder that really goes black!

Agree about the liquid. Often it can take too much liquid to make it Black and it can change the consistency of the icing!!

Spotlight and any cake or party shop should have the black powder.

Or even the Wilton's gel colours, I have had poor luck with the powders, but it's probably user error. The gels are so easy and so rich in colour.
(but red and pink taste AWFUL! Definitely get the 'no taste' option)

Definatly go to a cake decorating shop for BLACK food colouring. The cheapy ones just turn everything (including your teeth) grey!!

One tip too, before you add the black colouring, mix up a paste of cocoa and water (very little amount of water) and turn your icing BROWN first. Its easier to go from brown to black than it is from white!

Depends on the icing your using too, if your colouring white fondant, you can actually paint the food colouring onto it with a small paint brush, a little goes a long way, and it doesn't change the consistency of it, it doesn't change the flavour either, and it comes out much darker, I recently did a spider man face cake for my son, and it turned out amazing
