Default Should I be trying a different formula??

Just wanted to get some opinions on formula. I have been feeding DS karicare aptimal since 4 days old he is now 12 weeks and he throws up a bit after each feed unless I put his dummy in, he also poops every second day but when he does its always a number 3 (sorry to give a bit to much information) it's always really runny and I end up wearing it coz it leaks out the sides of his nappy. We tried giving him a bottle of S26 in the mix for a couple of weeks but he just threw up a lot more after those feeds. Should I be concerned that his poops are always runny? Should I try changing his formula? He's putting on weight so he's not missing out but I was just wondering if anyone had dealt with the number 3 situation for every poop. I'll bring it up with health nurse next time I see her as well.

he could be allergic to cows milk. I would try karicare goats milk formula, it still has lactose in it but is less harsh on babies tummies compared to cows milk based ones. Also if that dosent work maybe a lactose free one. Not many people know about the goats milk but worth a try.

Be careful changing formula too quickly...mix it with the old one for a few days first. An HA formula is a good suggestion as it's easier to digest. It's normal to bring up a bit of a feed afterwards, it's called posseting, not a vomit unless it's partially digested. Wouldn't suggest a reflux formula as that blocks them up even more. Remember that formula fed babies only often poop once a day...or less. We kept our bub regular when on reflux formula by adding 20mls prune juice to his bottles (on specialist paed advice). Runny poo not a problem if he's gaining weight....wearing it is no fun....try a pilcher or placcy pants over top!

I forgot to mention...runny poo is actually what you want...not harder, toothpaste consistency ones which come when solids start. He sounds just fine, simply remember to change his nappy quick smart when you see him pull his 'poo face'!

My DD also does very runny poos she is on Heinz Nuture. She usually does one after her morning feed and is a yellowish green but mostly green when in the nappy. The nurse said this is normal and she is also gaining weight well. 500 grams in 2 weeks! She also brings up a bit after feeds but less when we use infacol. Hope that's helps any.

I had DD on S26 when she was 4 days old but she was also doing number 3's all the time, on advise from the child health nurse we put her onto NAN HA. She was doing really well on this formula until she was about 12 weeks old and then she started throwing it up, rather then changing her formula again we have added a scoop of karicare thickener to her bottles and all is back to normal again :-)
