    Default Medication and breastfeeding

I've just been diagnosed with mild PND and been prescribed Zoloft. Doc says it is fine for BF. But DH says that he is not a fan of being on meds and BF. Has anyone been on the same and seen any impact on their baby?

I've no probs with the diagnosis but don't want these meds if they impact on my DD.

    TIA.

Sorry Munchkinsmum I just saw this thread.

I have been on Zoloft up to 150mg daily since DS was about 4 months old. I have and still am breastfeeding him.

I am a nurse and was very concerned about continuing feeding whilst taking ADs but did a lot of research and also spoke with a pharmacist at the Royal Women's hospital who said its absolutely fine and Zoloft is one of the meds preacribed most commonly for breastfeeding mums.

Feel free to PM me if you want any further info xxx

    Hi MunchkinsMum

There are many medications which are perfectly safe to take whilst breastfeeding, and Zoloft is one of them. Like Mummy2 mentioned, it's one of the most commonly prescribed anti-depressants for breastfeeding Mums.

I am currently breastfeeding and taking 150mg of Zoloft daily. I have been taking Zoloft for several months now, and I will for several months more.

I have done research on this drug and have sought the advice of my GP - it has a very low transfer rate and is considered safe.

If your DH is concerned or confused, perhaps he could speak to a health care professional for clarification

I was wondering the same thing. I've been diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder and at the moment, it's been hell for my family and myself. I have asked my GP about medication but he was against it because I was still breastfeeding. He told me to come back to him when I've completely weaned DS off breastmilk. Not really sure what to do..

I was thinking maybe go to another GP for a second opinion?

Go for second opinion. I wouldn't be able to function properly without Zoloft and I'm still breastfeeding with no problems whatsoever. Best move I made was to go onto meds; otherwise i was fearful of what every day with DD would bring. Now I can't wait for her to wake up so we can have fun!

Would your DH prefer you to suffer PND?? Surely not. As PP's have said, zoloft is fine with BFing. Good luck xx
