I've had 2 c-section and I wasn't told that I had to fast after. I got to eat when I felt up to it.

Good luck with it all and let us know how you go.

I was not allowed solid food until I passed wind either.. and that was embarassing telling the midwife when it happenned It took over a day for it to happen, the bloating the next few days was HORRIBLE, so painful!! And I couldn't get enough water, I was just soooo thirsty, that's probably because I lost quite a bit of blood I was informed later by several nurses and doctors that I should've had a transfusion I was anaemic for months after that.

I had a C Section at 7:30pm... The next day they put me on some 'light' diet that consisted of not much and was mainly clear(ish) consomme (sp) or something... it was horrid... Apparently it was because I had just had surgery... Stayed on that diet for 2 days I think. But I was that hungry that I got DP to go to the cafe and buy me sandwiches and I sneaked some of his KFC...

Why cant all hospitals be the same

With my daughter I wasn't allowed to eat until I passed wind - 4days later still hadn't passed wind. I had an asian nurse who came in and was absolutley horrified that I hadn't been aloud to eat - came back 10mins later with a cup of peppermint tea and by morning I was windy as hell, tmi sorry.

With my son had him in the morning and by lunch time I was eating. Nothing about passing wind first. Had them at the same hospital 2yrs apart.

So, no idea why hospitals change every 5 secs.

As with most surgery, including c/s it is standard protocol to await for bowel sounds (ie for you pass wind) before you can start taking food. Usually you can start water and fluids sooner than food. Its to prevent constipation (as the anaesthetic and pain relief medication can cause bloating, and constipation in some people).
I had my DD by c/s in the early afternoon (she was born at 1.55pm) and had been fasting from 7am that morning and was able to have dinner that night at 7pm (yes there was a little bloating and I had to pass wind first!!).

I was told this as well I was in Intensive care so I was being watched big time for 24 hours so after about 3 hours I rang the buzzer and said "ermm I passed wind now, can I please eat/drink?"
I was so thirsty it was mad I drank close to 4 liters of water in 1 hour and the nurse that came afterwards was all uppity as I hadn't "passed wind" But I did I proclaimed and she said "oh OK, now we need to turn you", I had a very heavy block couldn't move on my own, as she did that I...ummm....passed wind a fair bit and she glared at me I said ohhh whopise lol

Honestly I was so thirsty I had to fib!

I asked about this when i had mine, and they told me that it was an old practice, and that i could eat whenever i felt like it. Although as soon as i had past a motion I had to tell them and let them inspect... eeeeewwwww

The hospital I went to did not make a big deal about not eating afterwards. The nurse advised me about what foods I should be selecting for after the c-section. I filled out the menus while I was waiting to go to theatre. The last thing on my mind to be perfectly honest. I recall having a light meal that night, c-section was at 9am. Had ice and water etc during the day, although wasn't too thirsty as I still had a drip.
