This exact thing happened at my house this morning hahaha.
That's all good in theory, except my son is a teen and alcohol is the forbidden fruit, so it works better my way

there was a thread here a while ago about a wikipedia entry weird facts or something. i think it was started by a guy - gluttor for punishment or daddy large????? anyway it said that there was still 25% alcohol left after ?1hr cooking.

when i read that i thought oh great, cand give DS beef strogonoff (with rum) any more. but then i did the maths, i put in around 2 shots or rum. an adult serve is 1/4 of this so uncooked they would get 1/2 of a shot, cooked ( i simmer mine for a while) it would be 1/4-1/8 of a shot. DS serve is less than 1/4 of an adult serve, maybe even 1/8, so the amount he would be getting in mimiscule. that is if he eats the sauce, most of it ends up on his face and hair!!

I have just sat here and laughed my head off, thank you all so much for your funny posts its made my day. My DS is very partial to Poppies Fruit Cake, I realise now it must be the the bottle of brandy he puts in it!! Anyhow I don't let him drink and drive his quad bike after having some and he has never appeared to have a hangover so I guess it hasn't done him any harm

Yes, I do. The amount left after cooking is not something to get concerned about.

We don't drink alcohol and I prefer to use vinegars to substitute for wine in dishes.

But if we did use alcohol then I'd be happy for the kids to share. Alcohol in small amounts doesn't harm children.
