    Default Vent!!... Massive lower back pain!!

    I am 23 weeks and I have the worst lower back pain... I can't bend over, pick anything up or stand or sit for too long...
    However, my husband works away on a 10-3 roster and my 11 year old son has the typical attitude for his age and doesn't help me unless we get into an arguement first!!
    I'm so lost, I'm so over it!!! I've been an absolute B*%ch to my hubby because I keep getting cranky that he's working away... but I have no help to do anything like day to day cooking and cleaning etc etc...
    I work full time, and I'm a supervisor in an office, so i get to sit and stand and move around depending on how i'm feeling... I don't want to reduce my hours just yet! But i just don't know what else I can do... I've had the worst week ever!! So i'm venting... :-(

    Have you been to the doctor about it? My lower back is terrible, I go to the Physio weekly to help build up the muscles to give me some relief. The physio gave me a belt that goes around my lower back, without it somedays I wouldn't be able to move. So yeah if u haven't already go to the doc and possibly physio. It's not normal to be in that much pain. Good luck.

    I would skip the doc and go straight to a physio as you don't need a referral. I too am suffering from back pain (my SI joint) and am doing daily strengthening exercises. A lot of them are core/pelvic floors which really help. I still have bad days but it's not getting any worse thank god!!

    Could be any number of things, but sciatica is a fairly common complaint in pregnancy and a physio could really help figure out what's wrong. Getting in a pool to take some if the strain off the area helps a lot too.

    I slipped a disc last pregnancy and two years later after surgery am still suffering pain and a limited range of motion. It's incredibly frustrating and depressing having to ask my kids to pick things up for me all the time and never really getting a break from the pain, so I know how you're feeling!

    Oh and it sounds like SPD, symphasis pubis dysfunction (could be spelt wrong). I had it during my last pregnancy and it had me paralyzed with pain, I saw a chiro and he worked wonders on me, I could practically run a marathon!
    If you can find one that practices the Webster Technique then that will be the best chiro to see.

    Just be cautious with chiro's and see a Dr and physio first, Dr for them to check your symptoms and point you in the right direction, and a physio because they will take on board what the Dr has said and do their own investigations.

    I had been seeing my chiro for 5 years and I think he made a lot of my back problems worse while pregnant and contributed to the disc actually slipping. I stopped seeing him and things improved dramatically.

    Just remember that chiros don't work on muscles, they work on skeletal systems, and the fact is that in pregnancy ligaments soften and posture changes and that has more to do with muscular movements, than skeletal and a physio will sometimes be the better option.

    I am also sceptical about chiros and osteos (I've used them both more than once) and have only ever had real results from a physio. GP's aren't specialist so can't help with these type of issues.
