Default Childs first haircut do it yourself or hairdresser

Hey my son is overdue for a cut his 18months and his hair is getting so long and needs a trim me and my partner have tried doing it ourselves but it was a nightmare.
Just wondering if it would be better to take him to a hairdresser or if theres something i could try to try and make it a not so scary experience.

Hairdresser for us! Ds is almost 16 months and has been 4 times so far. He loves sitting up on the chair by himself and getting gushed over by everyone in the salon.
Maybe take him to the salon you go to with his fav toy etc and jsut see how he goes. He might surprise you and love it!

DD1 just had her first hair cut at 23.5 months! Took her to my hairdresser of 7 years - she was so good - sat very still and now her hair is so healthy and thickening up nicely! :-)

I took both my boys at around 12 months of age and they were both great, DS1 was really good and still is, he knows after the cut the hairdresser will usually give him a balloon or lolly. DS2 has sat on my knee both times but has been fine.
