The results may be skewed, I put yes even though over her lifetime it averages out to about once every 18 to 24 months, yet this poster said no for roughly the same thing. Not saying either of us answered wrong, just saying many who say no also say they have sometimes.

I have on a few occasions in the past, but no. I don't intend on smacking again.

    Yes we do, rarely.

We use 123 Magic mostly but sometimes Time Out is just not practical (like when that's what he WANTS e.g. to get out of the car or bath or something) so we'll give a sharp smack on the hand instead after 3. We rarely get to 3 anymore anyway.

I have when I've lost my cool and hate myself for it, trying hard to break the cycle of coming from a family of smackers

Absolutely not, I see it as a form of child abuse. (The act of smacking that is, I'm not saying everyone who smacks they're child is a monster or anything).

No. Not as a regular form of discipline.

I have smacked him and regretted it immensely, I'm working on strategies to not let it get to the point of a smack, bit by bit I'm breaking down a life time of conditioning ,.,

    I feel this way also.

Although ds is only 10 months old I don't plan on ever smacking.

Don't have children yet but when we do, yes I will smack them if they misbehave. I think of it more as a 'tap' than a smack.

If they misbehave I will smack them on the hand lightly but firmly when necessary. It will definitely not be our main or first form of discipline.
