I assume the second thread gets closed as that is what I have seen happen.

No idea re infractions. I have a clean rap sheet.

I would think so as generally a thread gets closed cause it's either got nasty or needs cleaning - so to re-open it on another thread is undoing what a Mod has done?

I guess it depends on whether the <insert reason for closure here> gets carried on in the new thread? When the old thread gets cleaned up, only some posts usually get deleted...

Really? I've seen heaps of closed threads where mods have said "if people want to discuss it further, start a new thread".

If starting a new thread was against the rules, my apologies.

I think it depends on the motives of the new thread. If it's to discuss a connected issue that was developing before closure I've found mods let it stay.

But if it's someone that is just transferring the fight from the closed thread to a new one then they usually close it.

By the by, I've reported the new thread myself. I'm sure someone will make the rule clear soon enough.

I don't think they mean a direct continuation of the same thread shortly after though, which I think is what the OP means.

Fair enough. I honestly thought i had seen it done reasonably often before. I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

That thread was a shame, though. If there is one system that needs an injection of new ideas, it is that one.

If a heated thread is resurrected in a new one, just so a person can have a "final say" then yes, it will be closed and if appropriate, then warnings/infractions given.

If it is a question which has stemmed from a thread, but would derail that thread by continuing that discussion in there, then by all means start a new one.

    Clear as mud, yes??
