It's a beautiful name and That's probably why it's more popular

    Exactly.

    same as this.
DS's first and middle names are in that list (middle name is his fathers and great grand fathers middle names). i was completely aware that his first name was very popular when i named him. but i'd adored that name for so long (well before it sky-rocketed in popularity) that i couldnt not call him that. it was just his name im so glad i didnt drop it because of its very high popularity like i almost did. i love his name so much. and hey, it must be an awesome name for it to be so popular
personally, i dont get the 'more unique the better' name thing. i love names for their own merit, not how many other people have used/heard of them.

Since when is choosing a name purely because you enjoy it and paying no attention to whether it's popular or not being a "sheep"?

DS's name is a variation of one of them but I doubt his name itself will ever be top 10

Wow harsh much? I chose my boys beautiful names because I liked them and they suited my boys... Not because I'm a sheep, but thanks!

far out. sensitive much? what i ment was that those names are the top 10 so i assume babies with those names make up a large percentage of babies born for that year. 70% of people said they didnt use one of those popular names for their child born that year so that would mean they chose a 'less popular' name. im not saying that those names arnt nice or that people chose one of those names just because thay were popular but doing something that a lot of other people are doing, whatever your reasons for doing it, is still following a trend, hence the sheep reference.
