Default Child restraints in Taxi's. (Werribee)

    Hi there,
my sister, who lives in Werribee, doesn't have a license, and has a 1 year old - and wants to start getting out to playgroups.
Does anyone know if it is possible to pre book a taxi with a child restraint provided.
Has anyone done this at all (possibly in this area) If so - which taxi company does so this. I have rang 13cabs - and they were absolutely no help at all.
So thought I would post here to see what the low down was.
    Any advise is helpful.
    Many Thanks

(P.S - she has a mean dog in her street and so doesn't like walking to the bus)

    Cheers

    According to VicRoads (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/...aintsRules.htm)

    Taxis and children
Taxi drivers are exempt from ensuring all passengers over 16 are restrained, but must ensure children aged one to less than 16 years are restrained in ether a suitable approved child restraint or seatbelt. Parents are encouraged to provide their own suitable approved child restraints. Children under one year do not have to use a child restraint in a taxi if there is no suitable approved restraint available for use; children over one year must use a seat belt or child restraint (supplied by the passenger) in a taxi. All taxis have to provide an anchor bolt or fitting for one restraint.

I doubt any would provide restraints, but two other companies that operate in the area are SilverTop Taxis and West Suburban Taxis. Might be worth giving them a call.

You can in Qld. Here some just have them in the back and put them in by request.

Have you tried calling the taxi companies?

Hi and thanks to everyone for replying.
I rang West Suburban Taxis and they have said that it is legal that Taxi's have an anchor point for the car seat - but for a number of reasons, including health reasons - they don't provide the car seats.
So the only option is to just order a taxi and fit own car seat when it arrives.
Which is not all that hard I guess. Just a bit tricky to juggle a pram a baby and a car seat when arriving at playgroup. hmmmmmmm.
Anyone done it - and have any advise?
    cheers again.

Maybe using a travel system. That way the capsule will click into the pram and she can put the base in the basket?
