As a step mum - I've tried many tried "solutions" in the past.

The fact is that - you get rid of the nits - you get rid of the nits - but they can come back...

As for the colour issue - I know full well about the one up man ship that comes with blended familes. - I think this is the real issue.

Any time I tried to do something for my step kids - there was always a "one upmanship" that occurred as well.

I got annoyed - sure, but also realised this was an issue with the adults rather than the children.

You try to do the best for the children , but have to accept that the person on the other end isn't necessarily acting in the best interests of the children and have to eat humble pie accordingly,

this is not about you or the other parent everthing is about the children...

Much as it hurts - you have to swallow it and figure - whatever happens at the other house happens and go with it.

if the school doesn't accept it - so be it - it's not your issue.

It has taken me many years to get to this point - so I'm posting in hindsight really.

Thanks Pegasus. Your post puts how I feel into better words than I could say. Being a step mum is hard which is why I check things with her before jut doing them as I don't want to take away anything she wants to do with her as a special mum and daughter thing away from her.

This! No school will allow it . Our school won't allow small Mohawks on boys.

Firstly, it sounds like you love your step daughter which is great.. personally i would not die any 10 year olds hair, way too young imo, also i dont know what the mother is like but maybe it has nothing to do with you why she is dying the streaks.. and the nit problem, my mum used to be a fanatic about nits but no matter how many times you get rid of them, they jjust keep coming back, especially when the child goes to school...

Just to add to it: Well we got miss 10 a pandora bracelet for Xmas and her mum has now just randomly bought her a solid gold bracelet and told her its better quality as it cost more. She then takes her to a friends farm for the afternoon and isnt allowed to wear the one her mum gave her but is allowed to keep the one we gave her on and she fell in cow pops and the bracelet is covered in poop. Surely she should have been made to take both off. A pandora bracelet isn't exactly cheap because it's a chain style the poop is everywhere through her bracelet. Sorry to moan.
