    Default C-sect in public hospital?

I am hoping someone can answer my question (I'm curious - no plans for another bub yet!)...

I had an emergency c-section in August in a public hospital. If I want to have a c-section next time, can I do this via the public system or would I need to get a private OB?

I.e., I am not sure if the public system lets you say you want to have another c-section or whether they try to get you to have a VBAC.

    Thanks.

    My sister has had:
    VB
    Csection
    VB
    Csection

With the last bub she told them she wanted a csection and they did it, while the midwife wanted a VB.
    She was public.

    You can do it public.

I had my first via scheduled csection for a breech bub, then with my second I asked for an elective and got one with no trouble, just asked. The Ob did say he would support a VBAC if I wanted it.

    Thanks for your replies!

Lots of info out there on getting a VBAC, but not as much for those who would choose another c/s, so I was curious! Cheers!

They will let you have another c-section but in my experience they pushed me to try a VBAC (I didn't) for my second child. However, be aware that should you have a third child, and want to have a VBA2C (as I did), they won't let you even attempt it.

Interestingly enough I had to push for my up coming elective c-section even though DD was born by emergency c-section. I was in tears and ended up putting in a complaint about the OB.

I had c/section for my daughter in 2008, when I got preg the 2nd time they gave me a choice of another c/section or Vbac, I chose the vbac cause I wanted to try to have bubs naturally, but after 18 hrs it ended in another c/section, if we have a 3rd baby it will be a straight c/section!

The midwives pushed me to have a vbac. But the ob was more than happy to do a repeat cs.
In the end it is your choice. Not theirs!
