Default FOUND: Bulk billing 20 wk morphology ultrasound on Gold Coast

    Hi all,
Just thought I would share my findings, hopefully it may help someone in my shoes.
Got a referral from the doc for my 20 week morphology ultrasound scan for South Coast Radiology but with instructions to ring them first to make sure they bulk bill. They don't of course so my doc said to ring around and find one that does and he will make out a new referral for that one.
Well it's taken me a few days and many phone calls but I found Paradise Ultrasound Specialists in Benowa, apparently they are relatively "new" so not many doctors have them on their referral lists.
The fantastic thing though is not only do they bulk bill but they also do 3D/4D scanning included AND you get the scan on CD, all included no extra costs.
Apparently they have been inundated with morphology bookings recently, not surprised with how things have changed now.

    Their website is: http://paradiseultrasound.com.au/

Personally I've never had a 3D/4D scan before but I've heard a lot about them and I can't wait - the only problem is we wanted to wait until the birth to find out the gender like our first baby but I think that with this ultrasound it's going to be pretty darn clear!!

Default FOUND: Bulk billing 20 wk morphology ultrasound on Gold Coast

    Hi OP.

i have been using Paradise Ultrasound for ages. and they are great i have had scans at 7,12,18,25 and booked in again at 32 weeks as have to check the placenta. they are awesome! i have the same specialist she is so nice.

They have been there quiet some time the lady that does mine has been working there for over 10 years.

Every scan i get a CD with pics on it plus a print out of pictures and i also get some video's of the scan as well. so its pretty amazing! great keepsake too.

if you have to have another scan like i do and no more bulk billings left they get you to pay the returning patient fee so its a lot cheaper

Paradise don't bulk bill their 20wk scan anymore, cost $170, with about $85 back from medicare you can claim. I went here with my 1st child but now looking for another bulk bill place if possible..anyone haven't experience?

I went to paradise ultrasound only about ten weeks ago for my 20 week scan and it was definitely bulk billed.

Additionally, they also found a very rare heart defect during the scan that the specialist at the Mater said we were lucky Paradise found since smaller places often don't. Not only that they spent extra time with us and called my ob at 5:00 in the afternoon to arrange immediate referrals.
    I highly recommend them.

    Default Still bulk bills

I had another 20 week morphology scan at Paradise Ultrasound just 2 days ago on the 4th Oct and they bulk billed. I highly recommend them.

They gave us heaps of 3D/4D imagery this time as my last child, my son, was stillborn. The sonographer had done her research on our files and knew all about our situation, she was extremely reassuring and double-checked, then triple-checked, everything in full view for us, fully explaining everything. She over-did the 3D/4D imagery which was so wonderful; she just let us look at our new baby, and fawn over him/her It really meant a lot.

I have been to South Coast Radiology several times through out this pregnancy, including the morph scan and I have been bulked billed for every single one of them. I do know from a conversation with them it also depends on your Dr/Ob and if they have an arrangement with them.

Paradise Definitely don't bulk bill anymore

Yes, they (paradise) were great with my first child, all bulk billed (except NT of course). But went there yesterday (5th Oct) for my NT and when I went to book in for my 20 week I was told there was a $170 charge. As of 1st Oct they are charging now. I guess if you had you're 4th Oct appt booked before the 1st Oct then they wouldn't charge you, but now they definitely are for everyone! It's a bugger because I really like it there...tossing up whether just to pay it, but hoping some other ppl know of a just as good place that bulk bills on the gold coast?

Ms Kez, does Southcoast do the 3d/4d as part of the 20wk scan too? Thanks for your help!

Ally Van - yes they do have 3d/4d. Each scan we've had there we have gotten a couple of pics from it, not sure about them putting it on a cd thou. We also had the same sonographer each time and she was great. Check with your Dr/Ob if they have an arrangement with an ultrasound place for bulk billing. As mine is an Ob and has an arrangement with the one I went to (I'm guessing he sends lots of business there), I got all mine bulk billed and I had more scans than the number medicare allow you to have.

Edit: oops just looked at my ultrasounds and I was wrong....sorry! The ultrasound place I have been going to is Gold Coast Radiology, not South Coast Radiology, my apologies.

Default Bulk billing prior to 22 weeks

Rang Paradise Ultrasound today to enquire about a 24 week/third trimester scan which my doctor is recommending, due to my last pregnancy.

Paradise Ultrasound said there would be a fee because they are no longer bulk billing scans past 22 weeks, so looks like you can still have your 20 week morphology scan bulk billed there!

Just rang paradise today (13/11/12) about my 20 week scan appt later this month and they confirmed again they definitely won't bilk bill this. Rang a few other places, including Gold Coast radiology and south coast radiology but they don't bulk bill either, around $160-170. You do get some back from Medicare though. But if I can avoid an expense with a new bub on the way, I will. Thinking the gc hospital is the only place for bulk billing in the coast bow, unless anyone has any other options they know about?
