My high school best friend's family won. We were at college at the time, and I had lent her some money to go on an overseas trip with one of her courses. She met me at the pub with all the cash, and then told me the news. They won over a million pounds - it was the UK National Lottery jackpot.

They moved to Wales, and bought a big house and nice car. They also paid for our student house when we were at uni (I shared with my friend), which was very kind of them.

I always figure that because I know someone who won then that means I will never win! (Plus the whole not buying a ticket thing...)

My grandpa won just under $50k 10years ago, it's still sitting in the bank, have no idea how much interest it would have gained in those years.

One of my ex's fathers won 3.2mil about 18 years ago - so it would of bought a lot!
He was a shearer with not much money at all, and then after he won he bought a HUGE(thousands of acres) sheep & cattle farm in the middle of Tasmania. He was a prick though, sexist, nasty & cruel. I used to hear how he was really nice until he won the money. I didnt like him at all. After his win he still buys lotto tickets all the time and has over the years won 5k-30k here and there

My dad won just over a mil 2 years ago. He is very low key and never told anyone except mum and us. Has played the same numbers forever. Us kids all got a new car out of it and he just invests the rest.

Unfortunately, interest gained in a bank account won't keep up with inflation (a fact I learned when I worked for Westpac), so it's a huge waste to keep large sums of money in the bank.

A woman I used to work with won about $200K one year and then about a year later won another $150K.

She was such an old cow though. Very nasty and b!tchy to everyone and that didn't change after either win.

I don't think he's keeping it in there just to gain interest, he just has no use for it, owns his home and is almost 80 so not much he really needs to buy. His pension gets him all his needs. But surely it would have gained something? I have no idea how it all works lol

My best friend's parents have had two significant wins in their lifetime. Consequently they have been mortgage-free since their early 20's.

My DH insists on buying lotto tickets every week. Keep on dreamin' pal
