Have you tried it? I have done some googling with mixed results, some people say it's nowhere near as good as a coffee machine but I wonder whether they are using good beans or whatnot.

I'm sure I will be back to ask more questions, very close to buying one but need to be absolutely certain because of the cost.

Oh, do you mind if I ask them here? I figured this is where the experts are

The only coffee recipes I've seen use instant coffee... Bell & Bug is there a way to make a proper espresso with coffee beans?

Well the best way would be to buy a cheap espresso machine that only pours the espresso shot, then use the thermy to heat and froth the milk.
Alternatively you can make an espresso shot with instant coffee, 1tsp mixed in about 60ml hot water, then froth and heat the milk in the thermy.

The recipe in the book is ok, not the best, more like a ice coffee but hot, not iced.

You can grind and brew coffee and then plunge it in a plunger and then make the milk for a late or cappuccino
