Default **spin off** do you know renters/buyers or both?

I just realised when reading the other thread about the housing market that I don't actually know many ppl who rent and then I thought how kinda odd that was since I grew up in the northern burbs of mel which certainly is NOT a wealthy area!??!

I don't know if its because Im not from a wealthy area everyone in my generation was prepared to move into the urban sprawl and buy houses in the new estate in the middle of nowhere with man made lakes and no public transport?

But then I know a whole host of ppl that live in smaller apartments closer to the city.

But I don't know anyone who lives in a nice family home close to the city? My sister rents a large family home close to city while living in OZ in inner burbs but thats about it.

I also live in the country, so pretty much everyone I know down here owns.

Like I said I have one sister who rents while in OZ (she lives OS) and my BIL lives a share house that they rent. A few of DHs mates are still in share houses and I know of one other couple with a kid who rent and are about to buy.

Maybe its just Mel (well the north & west) is much more affordable then other areas and that why? I dunno?

Most of our friends own- my sister and brother do too. I can think of two of my friends who rent- one is a bit of a transient and can't stay in one place too long, and one broke it off her with partner about 2 years ago and is a single mother with no money for a deposit to buy.

Other than that, everyone I know owns (except for us now too, I guess?)

We rent. Not by choice mind you. I hate the thought of paying someone else's mortgage off for them when they do nothing to up keep the place.

We can afford to pay a mortgage but we don't have a deposit.

I know both. Most people I know I wouldn't know if they own or rent, but out of those I do know it's probably an even split.

I'm a renter and the bulk of the people i know (which isn't many) are renters as well. I have a couple of partnered friends who are looking into buying shortly though.

    both.

    we rent and own properties.
    it doesnt make much difference
    to me.

a lot of our friends are ex pats so renting is easiest.

We have five mortgages, but we rent. We move frequently for DH's career (6 times in the last 7 years) and renting is the easier option for our home at the moment. Although we bought our forever property last month, and we will be moving into it at the end of this project, and there is no way you would get me out of there. Ever.

We know renters and owners.....I would say a fairly even spread between the two. Not many renters by choice though, most are very keen to own.

    I know both.

I'm a renter, but we plan to save and buy in a few years.
