Default Recommendations for Perth private hospital and female OB

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any current, up-to-date recommendations on the best female OB and private hospital in Perth. I've just done the tour of SJOG this afternoon and definetly found the midwife conducting the tour absolutely lovely and the facilities to be mostly of a higher standard than those I experienced in Sydney 2.5 years ago.

I'm very new to Perth so I don't know much about how early you need to get in to get your 1st choice OB but last time 8 weeks was late and i was pretty much laughed at by all the OB receptionists and we were therefore forced to go with our last choice.

My DS was born at 35 weeks due to spontaneous rupture of membranes and even though I got to have the drug free birth I hoped for, I wasn't at all happy with my OB during pregnancy and was very glad he was only there for the 20 minutes of pushing. Due to this experience I am looking for someone who is pro-natural birth who won't tell me I'm not going to achieve the birth I hope for, last time I was told 70% of first timers have epis, especially young mums like me and I don't want to be told to book in for a Caesar because approx measurements at 32 weeks means my bub will be too big! Bub came early and was tiny!

I'm especially interested in the experience of those who have needed the special care nursery, we needed it for a week last time and just want to be prepared this time. When my son was born I got a quick cuddle before he was whisked away to have a bottle of formula shoved in his face, was unable to breath and feed so needed an NGT. Meanwhile I was left to "recover" and was never given the option to bf....which severely affected bonding and establishing BF and it was only a success once we left hospital after only 1 day of rooming in.

Sorry for the long detailed post but I wasvjust hoping for some advice on a good female OB and looking for a private hospital with a good reputation for SCU and mother and child bonding as well as minimal intervention through pain meds etc...I'm asking a lot I know!

    Many thanks

Subscribing, as I would also be interested in finding out in preparation for TTC number 2.

My friend used Helen Clarke at SJOG Subi. She was very happy. I had my dd at SJOG Subi and was very happy with the service I received, they can't do enough for you. I didn't use a female ob, I used Adam gubbay who is an amazing doctor with a very caring, gentle bedside manner.

I had my first son at SJOG Subi with Adam Gubbay. He is pro vaginal birth but I believe also pro induction. When I thought I was having DS3 in Perth (we move a lot) I booked in with Adam again and then went on a tour of the facilities again. In April last year the midwife said that the new hospital policy was for all labouring mums to be hooked up to a monitor constantly. When I asked about using the shower she said I'd have to ask my ob personally and might be able to have 15 minute stints and then have more monitoring. It may have changed again now. I instead booked into SJOG Murdoch with Anna Holmes. She is lovely and very pro natural birth. You need to book her straight away.

I used Michael Gannon and loved him, he did everything he could do so I could have a vaginal birth but I ended up needing emergency CS. But I went a while before I needed it. High recommended. He delivers at SJOG subi.

I'm booked in at SJOG Murdoch with Dr Chris Nichols - both a girlfriend that used him last year and my GP recommended him. He recommends Anna Holmes (SJOG Murdoch) for a female OB, she covers every 3rd weekend of his on call.

    Are you NOR or SOR?

I have decided to check in here too cos i'm also interested in the best place in perth. We have full private health cover (thanks to DH work). so we want the absolute best in care from both a ob and the hosp. We are from the country so NOR or SOR doesn't bother us, but i want DH to stay every night with us!

I am booked in at SJOG Subiaco and my Ob is Richard Murphy - what a lovely guy he is. He has a very good background having worked in the red department (i think thats what its called) of KEMH. He is very pro-VB, but due to my age I am having an early C Section.

As for SJOG Subiaco - I have never heard a bad word about this hospital. I have stayed here also having had Gyno procedures done in the past and always felt very looked after. I can't wait to have my baby here.

I have booked with Dr Michael Gannon at SJOG Subiaco! I had
to book at 5 weeks due to high demand! I can not speak highly enough about his service so far! Very friendly and personable! His management fee is $3000 and each appt is approx $90!
He was our first choice of OB but I have heard great things about Dr Melissa Oneil and Adam Gubbay! Also booking early for all these obs is essential . We live North of the River in Perth and think the drive to Subiaco is worth it..

    Good Luck ladies
