Default Too old for ICSI at 37!!!!

    Hi Guys

After 6 years of TTC, my DH has low sperm count, poor morphology (1%)
we went to a new FS at CFC at sunnybank. BAsically he told us I am too "old" for IVF/ICSI with a AMH test of 6.9??? He said he would do 1 round of ICSI and if I did not respond very well that he would encourage us to discontinue our journey for a child.. Needless to say I was ropeable and left there in tears. We previously went to Monash and out of 4 cycles fell pregnant twice. We are now booked in to see miracle man Dr Warren De Ambrosis....I have heard such wonderful things about him. Just wanted some feedback on a AMH result of 6.9? is it that bad? I m 37 and actually obtained a natural pregnancy in Sept 2010???

I can't believe that anyone said that to you! What a pathetic thing to say.
I too have heard lots of good things about Wazza and have an appt with him in February for a second opinion.
I don't know too much about AMH levels to be honest , but while I think yours might be a bit low I don't think that it is anywhere near too low to keep trying. As for not being able to do ICSI because of either your age or the AMH that just seems like BS.
Feel free to come on over to the Brisbane thread, there are lots of girls there with lots of knowledge and they are a wonderful group who are extremely supportive during your journey.

what a deadset croc of $hit!!!!!!!!! i would seriously considering making a compliant to the medical director of that clinic about this FS (gee he sounds like my first douchebag of a FS, told me i was over it at 35 no thanks to his pathetic treatment regime he had me on) my amh in 2009 was 4.0, i got a bfp on that and have a 19 month DS, as u can see im 25 wks pg and i can assure u my amh had dropped even lower as i was getting less eggs when cycling for #2.....i took dhea for both these bfp's..........dont listen to a word, 6.9 is hardly past it. good luck with wazza. consider dhea as well, works for some us.

What rubbish is your FS sprouting? ICSi is for sperm issues and it is not age related at all, it just means injecting the sperm into the egg. For all my cycles, this current #4, all my DH's sperm have been ICSI'ed cos we have MFI.

Tiggasam - thats crazy!!! As the others have said, don't be put off by that!

I think your AMH level is relatively ok for your age. They still don't know enough about AMH and many women with undetectable levels of AMH fall pregnant naturally.

My AMH at 35yo was 5 and this year at 37 was 2.7. My bub is due in 5 weeks.

Glad you are seeing Dr De Ambroisis - so many women on bubhub rave about him.

There are many things you can try to help with low amh/low egg quality - DHEA, royal jelly, coQ10 etc.

    Wishing you all the best

I"ve never had an AMH done and have done IVF/ICSI with CFC and I'm 39. Did have FSH done. Have had 4 eggs out of 6 fertilised from egg pick up. My FS has been realistic but never negative about the process.

Ive never had my AMH tested but I just turned 40 and got a BFP from IVF/ICSI.
I did two stim cycles and got 14 and 13 eggs respectively. I also had a previous natural pregancy and we had to do IVF for MFI.

I would be telling any FS who said your too old at 37 to go jump! My FS told us the 'statistics' and then said but don't worry too much about them....we just need to see how 'you' respond' and during the 2nd cycle he told me that I responded perfectly to every treatment he gave me....and that's from a 40yr old!

Goodluck, I hope Wazza gives you some better news!

I got an amf of 3ish and fell pregnant with my first ovulation induction cycle after 3 ivf cycles. That doctor is a nob. Amf changes month by month. Seriously the best thing you can do is to see someone who is hopeful and helpful. I also changed clinics was the best thing I did. If you smell a rat he is one!
