It takes a long time to truelly know a person which many couples I believe don't do before they have children and many relationships fail. Dh and I didn't live together for 5yrs. We then lived together for 7yrs in which time we worked hard and bought properties, our aim was to set ourselves up first. We were then ready for kids, we now have 2 boys and a comfortable very happy life. We often find ourselves councillors to friends who's relationships have failed.

You can only know as much about someone as they're willing to give. I know people who have been married for 20 years and then find out something about their partner they could never have believed to be true. Conversely, I know people who've been together only a few months before marrying/having kids etc and they're as happy as Larry 20 years on.

Id never presume that someone who'd had a baby only a year or two after meeting their partner would experience a relationship breakdown because they hadn't gotten to know each other first.

    Every couple is different.
