    I say DO IT!!!!

A friend of mine did it. She looked after an autistic boy and loved it! When they went on holidays she went too. During the day she took the boy "site seeing" a lot.

That's the best way to go into it Em.... There is nothing better than the experiences that u would get. If it weren't for my host family, I wouldn't have gotten to the USA at all, not flown to Miami 3 times (didn't pay for a thing down there - not even room service) and had so much fun.... The only time I got homesickness was when I returned to Australia and not the other way around...

A friend of mine is over there doing it now. She is absolutely loving it. She has extended her visa twice now and has been with 3 different families.

Such an awesome experience I'd say go for it

They do monthly intakes for Au Pairs, and from memory it didn't take that long for everything to be processed.

Do it. I deferred a year to travel and it was without a doubt the most life changing experience I've had. If money isn't an issue, defer and do it. Even just travel and find random jobs to make a bit of cash instead.
