    Default Homemade presents

One of my new years resolutions is to make gifts this year rather than spending too much.
This isn't a decision to be a tight-ar$e, but rather a shift towards making thoughtful gifts for people. For the last few years i've baked gingerbreads and other food items for xmas gifts, but when it comes to birthdays i'm stuck for ideas.

Who makes birthday gifts and what kinds of things do you make?

Yesterday, inspired by the gorgeous stuff on Etsy, i made a cute little moss terrarium as a housewarming gift for someone. Hope she likes it.

My gf makes loads of little things, crocheted hats, flowers, she gave dd1 & 2 the cutest little crocheted dragons at christmas time.

I have made temari balls before, they are cute ho perhaps people might think they were xmas tree decorations.

I'm interested to see what other people suggest

Great ideas! A friend made these earring holders for her daughters for Christmas and I borrowed the idea for my daughter for her bithday. It's been very handy. It's just an A4 frame with the glass removed and wire fly screen stapled to the back. I have bought A5 frames for DD1 to make for her friends birthdays through the year. I'll staple them and she'll decorate.

    CLICK.

(Have blocked out her name sorry)

Things I have made in the past and are fun to make are:

For girls: hair tye holders, library bags, hair clips, growth chart

Boy: library bags, superhero capes, car holders (hangs over the door with little pockets to put cars into) growth charts

Babies: taggy blankets, knitted blankets, mobiles, singlets with flowers etc stitched on

Adults: wineglass charms, earring holders (like PP) , Pjs (a bought plain white tshirt with a personalized transfer and homemade boxer shorts or baggy pants) keyholders, key chains, potted plants, personalised stationary

I try to do the same. Gifts I've made are leather handbags, a purse out of cane toad leather (gag gift for a very particular friend), crochet baby blankets, quilted bags, stuffed toys, ragdolls, maternity clothes, hair accessories, girls dresses.

i'm currently working on a crochet girl's dress and if it works I'll make a few for friends' toddlers.

I'd love to see a return to craft and sewing supplies being found in department stores like when I was a kid. Bring on a crafty, homemade new world order.

Oh it was ugly all right. If I don't mind saying so myself it was truly revolting. I could barely touch the thing when it was finished.
