Default Car seats in taxis - Sydney

We will be going to Sydney for 2 weeks in feb and I intend in using the trains as much as I can. But there will of course be times when we do need to get in a taxi. Baby will be 7 months old by then.... Does anyone know if there are taxis in Sydney that have baby seats? I'm in darwin, and have never seen one up here but I'm hoping that Sydney does. I don't really want to have to lug his car seat down to Sydney with us......

I'm pretty sure you can request a baby capsule/baby seat when you order the taxi. We used to live in Sydney, and I'm sure we did on one occasion.

In some states, (including QLD) taxis are exempted from the car seat regulations, and it is not illegal to have your child on your lap in a taxi. I remember that this shocked me the first time we booked a taxi. "Wow, they really ARE laid-back in this state".

We spent a week in Sydney with our then 10 month old last year and Sydney taxi drivers are required by law to carry children under 1 in a car seat. Taxi station wagons can choose to carry a car seat in the boot but all people-movers and mini buses MUST carry a car seat at all times.

At busy taxi ranks like the airport we never had any trouble getting a taxi with a car seat but it was often better to book a cab in advance at other times as we had a couple of LOOOONG waits for a taxi with a car seat at other ranks.

if you request a carseat when you book a taxi it'll be fine.
lots of the station wagon taxi's have a carseat in the boot that they pull out when needed

    Hi,
We have a 2 year old princess and use a company called www.bubstaxi.com.au.
They are excellent and specialise in transfers for little ones. They also pickup from the airport.
My husband travels interstate several times a month and we go along with him most of the times.
The drivers are always on time and more importantly, they have installed the baby seat the way it should be installed.

We have tried many taxi companies here in Sydney and most of the time the drivers turn up without a baby seat, or dont know how to install the seat properly.

    Hope this helps.

its a tricky one i tried to book a taxi with a carseat a day in advance in WA ( so it's not just QLD lol) and they said they didn't have any taxi's available (oh and this was in perth so capital city not regional) with carseats and i would just have to travel with bub on my lap. was the worst car trip of my life and would definately not want to do it again

Taxi driver told me the other day n.s.w taxi drivers must legally put a child under one in a baby seat, over one is at parents digression.

If you ring and ask for a taxi with a baby seat for your under 1 y/o they have tobe comply

Also i forgot to mention, we are expecting a second baby in November... and our driver had told us that www.bubstaxi.com.au has upto 3 baby seats or capsules.

    Hope that helps even more.
